Litigation

Law Department makes all necessary arrangements for conduct of cases in which the State or any of its departments/ functionaries is a party. Such cases are being contested through a battery of Lawyers comprising of Learned Advocate General, Additional Advocates General, Deputy Advocates General and Government Advocates. The strength of these Lawyers is as under:-

2. Additional Advocates General 10 (5 each for Jammu & Srinagar wings of High Court)

3. Deputy Advocates General 08 (4 each at Srinagar & Jammu)

4. Government Advocates 07 (4 at Jammu & 3 at Srinagar)

5. Public Prosecutors/ Addl. PPs 42

Standing Councils are appointed for various departments to provide time timely legal advice and assistance to the departments at pre-trial, trial and post-trial stages.

Besides the Advocate on Record in the Hon’ble Supreme Court, a senior Additional Advocate General has been appointed to take care of State cases before the Hon’ble Supreme Court and other courts in Union Capital.

The amount of Counsel Fee paid by this Department to different Law Officers during the last three years is as under:-
